![]() ![]() Holly over at Following Foxes has some great inspiration on her instagram account not only for travel journalling but bullet journal layouts too. ![]() We have seen these orange tori gates from Hokkaido to Kyushu but even without the words on this page the simple image makes me think of Miyajima and smile.Ī post shared by Following Foxes ? on at 5:05am PDT Sometimes even the simplest doodles can be powerful memory triggers. I’m no artist but I love the creative process and as my journal is principally for me it doesn’t matter if it looks like a child drew in my diary. They make the journal visually appealing and draw me back to flip through them again and again. As I mentioned above in point 7, capturing the stories in my own words is essential but the colour, design, mementos, pictures and sketches that I add are also part of that story. You don’t need to be a great artist to make a travel journal. Sometimes it’s an extended stream of consciousness, other times it’s just a caption but capturing the stories as they happen or through my personal filter of life is part of the process. While I like it to be pretty and a home for photos and other mementos I pick up along the way what matter most to me is capturing the memories and experiences in my words. I cut up the brochure to make a tip-in with the story on the back and my own journalling hidden underneath It’s writing just for me not for an audience so I feel I can be completely true to my experience, raw and I can write as little or much as I feel like. My travel journal is a creative outlet just for me, I get pleasure from both creating it and having it to remember our trips and special days. In Australia and New Zealand, that’s a NO!ħ. I know I was would have loved to include maple and ginkgo leaves during the autumn in Tokyo but if you plan to carry those items or your complete journal across international borders you need to be aware of biosecurity restrictions. Pressed flowers, a dropped feather or colourful autumn leaves make an interesting tactile embellishment. Use feathers, leaves and flowers with care You might also want to include a page of useful phrases in your journal when you are preparing for your trip.Ħ. Other times you will notice a word being used alot or some one might teach you a new word that you could use as a heading, decorate on the page or write the story about. Even just being about to say hello, please, thank you and express your appreciation of something you saw or experienced it’s going to enrich your experience. Even in a country where you can easily get by in your native language, it adds to the experience and generally is appreciated by the locals if you try to use a few words of the local language. I’ve mentioned it as a journal prompt but there are many ways to include foreign words and phrases in your journal. Recording my memories is key but I don’t want to spend half my time while I’m travelling writing down facts and figures. I like my travel journals to be colourful, creative and fun to flip through. I also often opt for a reporters notebook that fits in my pocket or purse to scribble down my thoughts and use them to create pages in my journal later. I like to take a few minutes in a cafe, over a drink or unwinding back at our accommodation to jot things down. You can always journal when you return home but writing regularly and while in the environment provides inspiration that will help you move beyond how ‘great’ and ‘beautiful’ a place was and capture what it was that stirred your emotions and lock in those moments that made it truly special. I’m always on the search for creative travel journal ideas and inspiration and these are some of my current favourites. Incorporate some of these tips into your next travel diary and you’ll create lasting memories of your trips for years to come. ![]() ![]() ![]() Probabilmente ne avevo letto una recensione, mi andavo dicendo, oppure mi era venuta voglia di affrontare qualche cosa di leggero nella vacanze invernali. But Plato and a Platypus Walk Into a Bar does make understanding philosophy easier to understand and fun. Jesus said, “Let whoever is without sin cast the first store.” Suddenly a rock flew through the air. The authors frequently take a well-known statement and give it a slight twist: Jesus was walking through the streets when he noticed a crowd of people throwing stones at an adulteress. Holmes replies, “Someone has stolen our tent.”Īmong the explanations for The Supreme Categorical Imperative and the Olden Golden is the observation “A sadist is masochist who follows the golden rule.” Watson then asks Holmes what it tells him. Watson says he sees “millions of stars” and Holmes asks, “What do you conclude from that?” Watson proceeds to respond in astronomical, astrological, horological, meteorological, and theological perspectives. At one point, Holmes wakes Watson, tells him to look at the sky, and say what he sees. Watson on a camping trip and spending the night in a tent. In Plato and a Platypus Walk Into a Bar : Understanding Philosophy Through Jokes, Thomas Cathcart, Daniel Klein use jokes to explain various philosophical theories.įor example, For Inductive Logic, the situation is Sherlock Holmes and Dr. While many people are interested in learning about philosophy, actually doing something about it often results in rolling eyes. There is no need to be lost and confused - the answers are available. Long ago I found answers to those questions. ![]() The book gets to this point on page 182: "We never hear about hairdressers pondering: 'What is haridressing?' Then in college we get books like: Introduction to Partial Differential Equations. Titles such as: "All About Fish", "All About Electricity" are at my local library. In elementary school, they have "all about" books that are about 1 cm thick. And here is this graduate school professor who doesn't know what money is. Then he answered his own question: 'We really don't know.' I began thinking: I have children in elementaray school. The second week, the profesor ask: 'What is money?' I have moved from such questions to working on what should I do? What should I be? I don't wonder if everything I see and hear is an illusion. In honour of Torricelli’s work, a pressure of 1 mmHg became known as 1 Torr. In North America, ‘inch of mercury’, inHg, is preferred. The extensive early use of mercury in manometers led to the widespread adoption of mmHg as a convenient unit of pressure. He found that atmospheric pressure could sustain a column of mercury of about 760mm. What is a Torr?Ītmospheric pressure was first measured by the Italian scientist, Evangelista Torricelli, using a mercury-filled glass tube. ![]() In vacuum measurement, pressures are typically given in millibar (mbar) although Torr or millimetre of mercury (mmHg) are also used (see below). The bar is commonly used in weather forecasting and engineering. This is slightly lower than standard atmospheric pressure (101325 Pa). What is a Bar?Ī bar is defined as 100,000 Pa (100 kPa). This suction limit can only be overcome by pressurising the supply vessel or by using multiple pumps and intermediate reservoirs. In reality, the limit is only about 7-8m because of pump inefficiencies, frictional losses, elevation and temperature differences. The pressure exerted by a 10m column of fresh water is roughly equal to atmospheric pressure and this is the maximum height to which water can be raised by a pump using suction. For example, a water pressure of 3 ata consists of 1 atm of air pressure and 2 atm of water pressure. The abbreviation ata denotes an absolute measurement of the total pressure of the system, including atmospheric pressure. For example, the atmospheric pressure in Denver, Colorado, is only approximately 12.1 psi. In reality, atmospheric pressure varies quite widely with elevation, weather, temperature and humidity. 1 atm is equal to 101.325 kPa or 14.7 psi, which corresponds to atmospheric pressure at mean sea level. The standard ‘atmosphere’ (abbreviated to atm) is a convenient unit for measuring pressures. From the original definition, other units can be substituted (g for kg cm or mm for m) to produce a whole range of combinations such as gf/m², kgf/cm², and gf/mm². For specifying industrial pressures, the kilopascal is used when SI units are preferred (1000 kPa = 145 psi). Similar suffixes and notes are sometimes applied to SI units, for example 101 kPa (abs).Īs the pascal is a very small unit, it is commonly quoted in vacuum applications. This distinguishes it from an absolute pressure measurement (lba/in 2, psia), which is relative to vacuum. For example, in the USCS system, lbf/in 2 (the ‘f’ stands for force) or psig (the ‘g’ stands for gauge) shows that the value is relative to ambient atmospheric pressure. Sometimes, pressure units are appended with letters to show how the value has been measured. Most pressure measurements (gauge pressures) are made relative to ambient air pressure – the gauge shows a zero reading when exposed to atmospheric pressure.Īn absolute pressure is referenced against a perfect vacuum, using an absolute scale, so it is equal to gauge pressure plus atmospheric pressure (Torr is an absolute unit).Ī differential pressure is the difference in pressure between two places in a system (Head values are differential pressures). Pressure values can be stated in three ways: ![]() ![]() Pressure units of the SI and USCS systems Measurement System The standard unit of pressure in this system is pound per square inch (PSI): the pressure resulting from a force of one pound applied to an area of one square inch. This is based on Imperial units such as the pound (lb) and inch (in) or foot (ft). In North America, however, the US Customary System is preferred. The basic unit of pressure is the pascal, defined as the pressure exerted by a force of one newton perpendicularly upon an area of one square metre. It is widely accepted and used across the world. The SI system of units is the International System of Units (Système International) derived from the metric system and is based on the kilogram and the metre. This wide variation is partly down to historical or cultural differences, or a particular method of defining and measuring pressure is more convenient, intuitive and useful in some applications but not in others. Many terms, abbreviations and acronyms are used to describe pressure and values can be quoted in a host of different units. ![]() ![]() JixiPix turns any photo into a masterpiece. ![]() Superior customer service Contact us any time we are committed to your long-term satisfaction!. ![]()

Ongoing cases of other doping infringements could result in more bans of varying degrees as Romania, Vietnam and Colombia are all under investigation for performance enhancing drugs use by their athletes. The power jerk is named such because the receiving position is identical to those of the power snatch and power clean-feet in the squat stance and thighs above horizontal. While the power jerk is a fairly common training exercise, it’s a comparatively rare competitive jerk style because of its greater demand on bar elevation relative to the split. ![]() We saw lifts over the world record by Luis Mosquera in the M-73kg, Tian Tao and Liu Huanhua in the men's -89, as well as from three US weightlifters: Kate Vibert (W-71), Hayley Reichardt (W-49) and Hampton Morris (M-61).The power receiving position is more difficult to hold than a split at lower depths because the mechanics of the knee are so poor as you near a horizontal thigh, so the receiving depth is pretty limited for most lifters (a notable exception is Apti Aukhadov, who receives close to a parallel squat).
